                                                     Theatre of Life

Art is a kind of communication. The artist paints a picture and the viewer gets the message. The message is what the artist wants you to think about things, or whatever the viewer understands. A degree of technical expertise is involved which - when attained - gives the quality to the intended artwork.

My work is basically figurative painting. Being of Scottish birth I believe in freedom, so I do not wish to confine myself to one specific genre and reject having to restrain myself thus. The content to me is secondary and it is the way it is depicted that concerns me. I am interested in the tension and energy arising from a two dimensional plane against the infinite depth of an “artificial†universe. I emphasize the surface by working in a heavy impasto technique, what I call a “wall of paint†The theatre of life is contained in an artwork whereby points are created in a space giving rise to motion and energy.

I mostly like to do landscapes and people. My influences include Monet, Hopper, Richter and a fascination for realism in a new definition.
